Nominations for the “British Potato Industry Award” and “AHDB Above and Beyond Award” are now open.


The Best Chip Shop Competition is set to be held again, after a four-year hiatus and 51 stores have been awarded Highly Commended Chips for producing hot potato chips with 9% or less fat. These stores are currently being mystery shopped for regional awards and the coveted title of Best Chip Shop 2017.


The Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) recognized new methods and breakthroughs in professional foodservice training programs with the 2017 Idaho Potato Commission Leadership Innovation Awards for Excellence in Foodservice Education at the 13th annual Center for the Advancement of Foodservice Education (CAFÉ) Leadership Conference. 


Companies in the USA are preparing for the National French Fry Day (July 13), celebrating the fact that potatoes and tomatoes account for more than half of all vegetables consumed by Americans every year, according to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).


On the occasion of this year’s European Potato Processors Association (EUPPA) Conference, held recently in Brussels, I had the chance to interview the association’s President, Kees Meijer, and to discuss both his views on the potato processing industry and the plans and scope of the EUPPA itself.
