Potato processors are getting ready for the EUPPA Conference 2017 (May 24), Brussels, Belgium. The event will detail topics such as “European Potato Processing: Our vital contribution to the European economy and future aspirations”, “Achieving productivity growth, sustainably and responsibly, through innovation: EUPPA members’ success stories” and “Panel discussion – lessons for future”.

The attendees at the Conference will find out more about the industry, its performance, strategy and understand what makes it so competitive around the world.  

There will be speakers and panel discussions about the innovation in the potato processing sector, industry responsibility and the future.    

For the first session - “European Potato Processing: Our vital contribution to the European economy and future aspirations”, the speakers are:

- Jan Huitema, European Parliament: “Europe as driving force for responsible business growth in the world”;

- Willi Schulz-Greve, European Commission, DG AGRI: “European potato products around the world, competitiveness and future perspectives”;

- Dr. ir. Corné Kempenaar, senior research scientist, Wageningen Plant Research: “- The future of Agriculture – precision farming”;

- Prof. dr. ir. John Van Camp, Head of the laboratory, Department of Food Safety and Food Quality, Ghent University: “The future of (processed) potato products in a balanced diet in the light of the latest literature”.

For the second session “Achieving productivity growth, sustainably and responsibly, through innovation: EUPPA members’ success stories”, the representatives of the companies will be invited: 

  • Anne Schlewitt, Agrarfrost;
  • Jolanda Soons-Dings, Lamb Weston / Meijer;
  • Joeri Pergoot, Mydibel;
  • Annick Heynderickx, Agristo;
  • Lucile Celisse, McCain;

EUPPA represents the most important European potato processing countries and it plays a proactive role on a number of issues such as food safety, EU trade policy and sustainability. Membership includes six national associations and directly 17 companies.

Europe is the second grower of potatoes worldwide; it is an industry well rooted in its agricultural supply chain. The whole of Europe grows 122m tones of potatoes, out of which the EU production is 52 million tones with the sector’s turnover being around EUR8bn.
