More than 600 food processing and packaging exhibitors will display machines, products and services at this year’s Process Expo in Chicago, taking place September 19-22 at the McCormick Place Complex. Our magazine obtained an exclusive interview with the Food Processing Suppliers Association, the organizers of this event, to find out what’s in store for participants at this edition.

What should participants expect from this edition of Process Expo?

PROCESS EXPO, produced by the Food Processing Suppliers Association, is the nation’s largest trade show dedicated to bringing the latest technology and integrated solutions to all segments of the food and beverage industry. The 2017 PROCESS EXPO, being held at the McCormick Place Complex in Chicago, IL will offer over 600 exhibiting companies, spanning 220,000 square feet, displaying equipment, machinery and demos for buyers in all of the vertical industry sectors, including: bakery, grains, seeds and snacks, beverage, dairy, meat, poultry and seafood, prepared foods, fruits and vegetables, confectionery and candy, co-packers and pet foods. 

What are the new features this year?

There are several new feature areas on the show floor including the Virtual Reality Showroom, where attendees will be able to experience state-of-the-art food processors up close and in detail; Three working production lines including a bakery line which will simulate a frozen cookie line process and two Meat Processing Production lines  - one will feature a deli line incorporating stuffing, slicing and packaging and a second sausage link/hang line which 

will include a bowl cutter, mixing, stuffing, linking and hanging.  

How about activities relating to the potato processing industry? 

PROCESS EXPO features a large number of exhibitors that offer a wide range of manufacturing solutions for potato processors. In additionthe educational program includes many sessions that cover all segments including the potato industry. These sessions focus on critical topics such as food safety, consumer trends and new products, and innovative technologies to increase efficiencies.

What are your expectations regarding the impact of the various seminars taking place during the event?

There will be 45 seminars covering a variety of topics ranging from food safety to technological developments in the industry and an Executive Forum that will all be a part of PROCESS EXPO University.  Education is one of the most important reasons for food processing professionals to attend PROCESS EXPO, and this year we have expanded our educational offering to cover important topics such as food safety, alternative methods of production and automation, as well as food processing and packaging specific to each of the major industry segments that attend our event.
