PepsiCo inc. is introducing a new ingredient to its Lays potato chips in a bid to make them healthier.

The ‘designer salt' is formed of crystals shaped to reduce sodium levels ingested when eaten.

Although still being tested with consumers, the ingredient is said to reduce sodium levels by 25 per cent

If successful the ingredient may be introduced into other products manufactured by the company like Cheetos and Quaker bars.
