Punjab Potato Deluge Causes Price Crash PDF Print E-mail
Written by admin
Over production of potatoes in the Indian Punjab have cause prices to crash by almost a third with the threat of rotting stores imminent.

Nearly 2.1 million tonnes of potatoes were produced this season but a lack of buyers has meant prices have dropped from Rs 800 to Rs 250 per quintal.

Despite irregular power supplies and poor irrigation canals the Doaba region has produced an unprecedented number of spuds.

But with only 491 cold stores it is feared that much of the crop will rot over the coming fortnight unless drastic action is taken.
