Rotting Spuds fed to Cattle by Bangladeshi Farmers PDF Print E-mail
Written by admin
Frustrated farmers in the Barguna and Patuakhali regions of Bangladesh are feeding crops to cattle after a lack of storage caused price crashes.

Potato producers in the areas enjoyed bumper yields following favourable weather conditions.

But a lack of cold storage facilities caused prices to plummet to Tk 200-250 per maund in local markets.

Many fear they will fail to cover production costs let alone make a profit resulting in produce being used as cattle feed.

Around 35,000 tonnes of potatoes have been produced across the two districts.
