From Japan and Bangladesh to Australia and Canada, from Norway and Denmark to France and Germany and from the UK and Ireland to Egypt and the US, the 2010 International Potato Processing and Storage Convention attracted a truly worldwide audience.

Held in Edinburgh, Scotland's beautiful capital, the three-day event featured top level presentations from academics, researchers and highly experienced potato processing or storage experts.

Topics covered included updates on sprout suppression in storage, storage cooling advances and other disease control methods which were relevant to the potato storage industry. For the processing sector, an acrylamide update, innovations in frying, product sorting and meeting consumer demands were presented.

Speakers included Dr Nora Olsen, from the University of Idaho; Professor Qiang Liu from the Guelph Food research Centre in Canada; Dr Tjaart Hofman, of Certis in the Netherlands; Professor Bruno De Meulenaer, of Ghent University in Belgium; Graham Brown, of ADI Systems, Canada; Hanne Vang Hendriksen, of Novozymes, Denmark; and Pramod Taparia, chairman of Wintech Ltd, India.

The 2012 convention will be held in Denver, Colorado, US.
