Pepsico Canada and McCain Foods were pressed to make important recalls, because of Salmonella risk in potato chips, respectively golf balls materials in frozen hash brown products.

Pepsico’s Miss Vickie's brand announced a voluntary recall of Jalapeño-flavored kettle cooked potato chips in Canada, because of the potential presence of Salmonella in the seasoning used in the product.

This action is the direct result of a supplier's recent recall of a seasoning blend which includes jalapeño powder that could contain Salmonella.

Although no Salmonella was found in the finished seasoning supplied to Miss Vickie's, the company has decided out of an abundance of caution to recall this one product. No illnesses related to this matter have been reported to date.

Only Jalapeño-flavored Miss Vickie's potato chips are impacted by this recall that were distributed in three bag sizes nationally in Canada to grocery, drug and mass retailers, foodservice outlets and vending machines.

Golf Balls Materials in McCain Foods Potatoes

McCain Foods USA, Inc. also announced a voluntarily recall for its retail, frozen hash brown products that may be contaminated with extraneous golf ball materials, that despite stringent supply standards may have been inadvertently harvested with potatoes used to make this product.

The company mentions the consumption of these products may pose a choking hazard or other physical injury to the mouth.
The impacted products include the following: Roundy’s Brand, 2 lb. Bag of Frozen Southern Style Hash Browns and Harris Teeter Brand, 2 lb. Bag of Frozen Southern Style Hash Browns.
The Roundy’s products were distributed at supermarkets in the states of Illinois and Wisconsin. The Harris Teeter products were distributed in the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia and Maryland. Distribution occurred after the date of January 19, 2017. The company mentions that no other products under the respective brands are impacted by this recall, but consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them.
