US Angus Farm Bovines Enjoy Herr’s Potato Chips

When some potato chips are factory marked with imperfections and would otherwise become food waste, one US Angus cow farm comes to help the environment.
At Herr Foods, a sophisticated sensor system uses cameras and jet streams of air to knock down undesirable chips onto a separate conveyor belt, where they will soon meet a new purpose. The mixture of chips, pretzels, popcorn, and more become food for cattle on the adjacent Herr Angus Farm, Action News recently wrote.
According to the Research and Development Director with Herr Foods, the imperfect pieces of potato chips don’t make it to the packaging bags, but also they do not go to the trash to “fill up the landfill”.
“We have a pretty special setup here with our farm down the street, where we can pick those chips out and send them to the farm for the cattle feed,” the source said.
In his turn, one farm expert declared for the above-mentioned source that the solution is “good for the cattle and the environment.”
“I think the unique digestive system of the beef cow is kind of what makes all this make sense,” he declared. “And it’s a valuable nutrient for the cattle.”
But the healthy sustainability practices don’t stop only with the potato chips. The cattle farmers can take the water from the factory and irrigate the fields, which then feed the cattle. Moreover, they take the manure and put it back on the crop ground.
