Herr’s Launches Patriotic Potato Chip Trio To Mark America’s 250th Anniversary

Herr’s has announced the winners of its 2026 Flavored by Philly: Taste the 250 campaign, unveiling three limited-edition potato chip flavors inspired by the ideals of freedom, liberty, and unity as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The Pennsylvania-based snack manufacturer said the special edition competition attracted nearly 100,000 consumer votes between November 12 and December 10, 2025. Participants selected from a range of flavor concepts developed around themes linked to both Philadelphia’s historical significance and the nation’s founding values.
The three winning flavors are Freedom Loaded Cheese Fries, Liberty Hickory Barbeque, and United Jalapeño Cream Cheese.
Freedom Loaded Cheese Fries draws inspiration from Independence Hall and features ripple potato chips seasoned to resemble French fries topped with cheese and bacon. Liberty Hickory Barbeque references the Liberty Bell and combines barbecue seasoning with sweet molasses and smoky hickory notes. United Jalapeño Cream Cheese takes its cue from Betsy Ross and the first American flag, pairing cream cheese flavor with mild jalapeño spice.
“America’s 250th is an amazing time to be able to share potato chip flavors made by the people for the people,” said Ed Herr, Executive Chairman of the Board of Herr’s. “Flavored by Philly: Taste the 250 is our way of honoring the city that continues to inspire our flavors and our fans.”
Now in its fifth year, the Flavored by Philly initiative has become a recurring consumer engagement campaign for the company, highlighting regional food traditions and Philadelphia-inspired flavor concepts. Previous editions have featured products influenced by local specialties including cheesesteaks, roast pork sandwiches, and tomato pie.
Herr’s said this year’s competition generated particularly strong interest as consumers selected flavors intended to represent Philadelphia’s role in the nation’s history and identity.
The limited-edition products are available throughout the summer across Herr’s retail network and online channels. The company noted that the chips are produced using premium potatoes and manufactured in Pennsylvania.
Founded more than 80 years ago, Herr’s remains a family-owned snack producer with a portfolio that includes potato chips, pretzels, cheese snacks, popcorn, and other savory products.
