Potato Harvesting is Almost Complete in Europe

Potato harvesting is nearly complete in Europe. Values are increasingly expanding into a broader spectrum. Problem samples that need to be moved are clearing at current prices, while dry samples that are more suited for longer-term outlets, including export, are gaining popularity.
“In the U.K. M.Pipers [e.g. potato variety] are in demand but quality samples are not easy to find in the South. Bruising issues are common following a season of high D.M. levels and recently, some stores destined for packing have had to be unloaded for processing because of breakdown issues,” the latest IFA report reveals.
In Ireland, the retail potato demand should improve with the recent cold weather setting in and in the lead-up to the holiday period.
“Consumption has increased in the last 10 days as temperatures have dropped. In stark contrast to last year’s harvest, most growers have now completed harvest before the frosty conditions have begun,” the IFA experts concluded.
