Burts Snacks Expands GWR Partnership with First Class Crisp Pack

Burts Snacks has expanded its partnership with Great Western Railway (GWR), introducing a smaller pack of its hand-cooked potato crisps for First Class passengers.
From July 2026, passengers travelling in First Class on selected GWR services will be offered Burts’ Lightly Sea Salted crisps in a 25g pack developed for onboard consumption.
The packs use a different roundel colour to distinguish them from the company’s standard 40g retail format. They will be manufactured using 40-micron packaging film and contain the same recipe as the existing product, made with British Red Tractor-assured potatoes and sea salt.
The launch represents a further move by Burts into travel retail and other on-the-go sales channels. GWR currently provides complimentary drinks and snacks to First Class passengers on longer-distance, high-speed weekday services, although the products available can vary by journey.
“We’re always looking for new opportunities to grow the Burts brand and partnering with Great Western Railway marks an exciting step into the travel retail sector for us,” said Sas Horscroft, head of marketing at Burts Snacks. “Launching a bespoke format for rail passengers allows us to bring our premium hand-cooked crisps to consumers in a new environment, while also opening the door to wider opportunities across the travel sector.”
Helen da Costa, head of marketing at Great Western Railway, said the partnership would add a British-made product to the operator’s onboard range.
“The new 25g format is perfectly suited to rail travel and gives First Class customers a convenient, high-quality snack to enjoy while travelling,” she said.
The launch follows Burts’ rollout of HFSS-compliant versions of several core flavours as the snack manufacturer develops products for additional retail, convenience and travel channels.
