MountainKing Extends Packing Operations in Colorado
MountainKing – a company that grows, packs, markets, and distributes fresh potatoes – has acquired a new Colorado packing facility in the San Luis Valley, writes AndNowUKnow. The new plant will be dedicated exclusively to bite-size potatoes.
With growing demand for small potatoes, MountainKing will use the new facility to package fingerlings in 1.5lb and 5lb bags, as well as baby yellows/reds, and a combination of baby medleys in 1.5lb see-through mesh bags that have been designed to extend product shelf life.
The new location will also help the company combine smaller potatoes on mixer loads from its other Colorado packing sheds. MountainKing has two additional plants operating in Colorado.
MountainKing was founded in 1973 in Huston, Texas with a foundation rooted in traditional russet potatoes. However, the business quickly evolved towards Yukon Gold as these potatoes began to gather a lot of interest. In time, MountainKing expanded to include other varieties that were relatively unknown in the US. These came from countries such as Russia, Netherlands, Germany, England, and the West Indies.
