Novel Innovation Center Boosts Production of Potato-based Ingredients

Now that a brand-new 5,000 square meter Innovation Center has officially opened, KMC is prepared to deliver the raw materials needed to create plant-based cuisine in the future. The company increased its capacity for innovation by spending USD14.3m on this state-of-the-art plant, solidifying its position as the top producer of potato-based ingredients worldwide.
KMC is demonstrating a strong belief in the future of plant-based solutions in the food business with its record-breaking sales of USD488.1m in 2023 and its optimistic expectations for the upcoming year. This confidence is shared by the 600–700 potato growers who own the company; they understand the potential of their investment in the Innovation Center.
“The plant-based agenda is growing rapidly, and KMC is ready to provide sustainable plant-based solutions to the food industry. Our Innovation Center is central to this strategy and will play a crucial role in establishing a Danish stronghold within bio-solutions and the production of future plant-based foods,” Jesper Burgaard, CEO of KMC, mentioned.
KMC exports its goods to more than 90 nations, and its Innovation Center will provide access to cutting-edge facilities for cooperative innovations with clients. The experts at KMC will be able to provide knowledgeable guidance on how our components might enhance the value of their products thanks to these facilities. KMC is specifically focused on obtaining the starch, fiber, and proteins from potatoes—ingredients that are essential to a variety of dishes, including bread, noodles, chips and snacks, and plant-based cheeses and sauces. KMC is dedicated to sustainability and seeks to substitute plant-based products for animal-based ones.
“The potato has a low climate footprint and provides many calories per hectare. Therefore, KMC’s work plays an important role in efforts to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions through Danish technologies,” Burgaard added.
By consolidating its development department in the larger facility, KMC will be able to better share expertise and hire more professionals to address the increasing need for specialized knowledge about potatoes and their uses.
