December 2024: 4% Decreasing U.S. Potato Levels Held in Storage

On December 1, 2024, 13.8m tons of potatoes were stored in the U.S., a 4% decrease from December 1, 2023.
66% of the 2024 production was from stored potatoes, a 1% increase over the same period the previous year. At 7.1m tons, the indicated season-to-date disappearance was 8% lower than the previous year.
For the season, 1.28m tons of potatoes were processed in Idaho. Processors in Oregon have consumed 640,000 tons of potatoes this season. In Washington, processors used 1.22m tons of potatoes during that time. For the period in question, processors in the eight states consumed 3.82m tons of potatoes, a 4% decrease from December 2023.
As of December 1, 2024, Idaho has 4.7 million tons of potato stockpiles. To date, 2.06m tons of the Idaho potato harvest have been capitalized. Oregon had 1.03m tons of potato stockpiles as of December 1. 277,500 tons have vanished thus far. On December 1, there were 3m tons of potatoes in Washington. 1.98m tons have been utilized so far.
