Europe: Potato Processors Are Concentrating on Moving Contracts

There is little action in the free-buy market in Europe as the major potato processors focus on moving contracts. Spud sellers are still optimistic that values will keep becoming better.
“Potato export demand is currently reduced to most destinations while buyers wait for prices to settle but there is still good demand in France from buyers in Spain,” the latest IFA potato report reveals.
In Ireland, the home potato consumption and retail demand remain stable. Preparations are underway for 2025 plantings.
“Growers who have not yet sourced seed, particularly for processing varieties, will find it extremely difficult to do so. Similar to 2024 growers will likely have to use home-saved seed to bridge the gap if new seed supplies are not available,” the IFA potato experts concluded.
