The Irish Potato Consumption and Retail Demand Remains Quite Strong

Although the recent warmer weather had an impact, potato consumption and retail demand in Ireland are still quite strong for this time of year.
“New season Queens continue to come onto the market as they are fit. Some early Rooster will be coming onto the market in small quantities. This is easing the pressure on the short supply of old-season stock. Later plantings still have some catching up to do but looking good so far,” according to the latest IFA Potato experts report.
Early planted crops in the UK are burning down or quickly dying, even though some better yields are produced. However, later plantings, where irrigation is not easily accessible, are increasingly frequently exhibiting stress.
“In Scotland, it has become scorched in the East and later plantings are at 10 to 12 t/acre. Good growing conditions with rain will be required if respectable yields can be achieved,” the IFA Potato experts concluded.
