U.S. Potato Consumption Reached 19m Tons on June 1

Nationally, the largest U.S. potato states had 3.39m tons in storage on June 1, 2024, up 19% from June 1, 2023. Potatoes in storage accounted for 15% of 2023 production, compared to 14% the previous year. The indicated potato disappearance was 19m tons, up 8% from the same period last year.
On June 1, 2024, potato stockpiles in Idaho totaled 1.62m tons, according to USDA data. The Idaho crop consumption totaled 5.74m tons. On June 1, potato stockpiles in Oregon reached 208,289 tons. The total consumption to date has been 1.18m tons. Potato stockpiles in Washington stood at 711,232 tons as of June 1. So far, the state’s potato consumption totaled 4.35m tons.
Idaho’s processors consumed 3.47m tons of potatoes this season. In Oregon, processors consumed 1.66m tons of potatoes this season. Malheur County utilized 431,819 tons, whereas the other counties used 1.22m tons. In Washington, processors utilized 2.84m tons of potatoes this season. Processors in the eight states used 9.90m tons of potatoes this season, up 4% from June 1, 2023.
