The Department of Agriculture Research Services in Malawi (DARS) has started a laboratory cleaning exercise of sweet and Irish potato planting materials in order to avoid the developing viruses which affect the production, Malawi News Agency (Mana) has established. 


The Potato Research Institute, based in the town of Havlíčkův Brod, Czech Republic, has announced that it has managed to cultivate a new potato variety, known as “Val Blue”, which is characterized by a striking blue-purple color, according to the Czech public radio.


The National Potato Council (NPC) announces that Adrienne Gorny, a fourth-year doctoral student in Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology at CornellUniversity, is the recipient of the 2017-2018 NPC Academic Scholarship.


Dutch potato breeding company Solynta has developed potato varieties that are resistant to potato late blight (Phytophthora). The varieties have been introduced to the public during a field day held by the company at its premises in Wageningen, the Netherlands this week.
