Potato Council continues to support the industry’s front-runners in marketing, innovation, research and development, and by presenting this award, it recognises the dedication and entrepreneurial spirit of those high-achievers who have made outstanding contributions to the overall GB potato industry.
“Having served on Potato Council’s Board and R&D Committee for several years, and now as Potato Council Chair, I know there are many talented and dedicated people in our world-leading industry who deserve recognition. We present this high profile award each year, to highlight and honour people who have made a valuable contribution. Our role is to provide support to improve production, assist the industry in promoting potatoes and to protect the reputation of the sector,” said Fiona Fell, Potato Council’s newly-appointed Chair.
“It is the innovations that these people create which ensure the GB industry is constantly at the forefront in a globally competitive market, and this should be celebrated.”
Previous award winners have included variety breeders, specialists in R&D and knowledge transfer, storage engineers, processing specialists, machinery designers and journalists – and nominations for 2014 are sought for candidates from any sector of the potato industry who have made an outstanding contribution.
The award committee, drawn from diverse sectors of the GB potato industry, will select the winner from those who have been nominated, and the winner will be announced during the Gala Dinner at the Seed Industry Event in Scotland on November 25th 2014.
Nomination forms are available online and from the award committee secretary, Margaret Skinner.
Nominations will close on 30 September 2014.
