GEA Takes Strides Towards Eco-friendly Manufacturing at Its Sites in India

By installing and growing solar electricity at its locations in Bengaluru and Vadodara, India, GEA is making a significant step towards sustainability. This program, which aligns with GEA’s Climate Transition Plan 2040, demonstrates the company’s commitment to lowering its carbon footprint and switching to more environmentally friendly production methods. It is estimated that the solar power systems at both locations will reduce yearly CO2 emissions by around 900 metric tons.
Utilizing heat-safe photovoltaic technology, and installing solar panels represents a significant advancement in utilizing renewable energy sources for operations. Solar energy provides about 50% of the electricity requirements of all GEA-owned properties in India, with a total installed capacity of 811-kilowatt peak (KWp).
“Fostering solar power at our Bengaluru and Vadodara sites is a significant step forward in our global sustainability strategy, enhancing our operational efficiency. This initiative reinforces our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and showcases GEA’s dedication to being a leader in eco-friendly manufacturing practices,” Johannes Giloth, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of GEA, said.
Safety as Paramount During the Implementation of GEA’s Solar Power Project
Throughout the solar power project’s development, GEA has placed a high priority on safety. To guarantee peak performance, reduce risks like overheating and power surges, and guard against potential dangers like fire occurrences, solar panels with back glass and other characteristics have been adopted. Furthermore, every installation at both locations complies with international safety requirements, proving GEA’s dedication to leading industry safety practices and environmentally friendly projects.
Apart from solar energy, GEA has instituted various additional eco-friendly initiatives at its Indian locations, such as installing LED lights, recycling wastewater, installing waterless urinals, and advocating for electric and hybrid cars within its supplier network. These initiatives show how committed GEA is to promoting sustainable practices.
“By investing in photovoltaic installations at all viable locations in the Vadodara and Bengaluru units, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also setting an example for the industry in India. Harnessing solar energy reflects our commitment to environmental stewardship and creating a sustainable future for generations to come,” Suvneet Jain, Country Managing Director of GEA in India, concluded.
