PepsiCo Romania Invests Over USD2m in Green Energy
The integration of photovoltaic panels at three locations in Romania – Dragomirești, Popești-Leordeni, and Covasna – is the latest green energy project that PepsiCo has completed.
The project represents a local investment of USD2.1m in over 3,000 photovoltaic panels, with a combined installed capacity of 1,700 kWp and the potential to generate over 1,300 MWh of green electrical energy annually. It also supports PepsiCo Positive (pep+) decarbonization goals, as PepsiCo strives to achieve net-zero by 2040. It is anticipated that the annual reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) that comes from using these solar panels is around 500 tons, which is the same as the benefit of planting over 15,000 trees. In the future, PepsiCo is assessing whether photovoltaic panels may be installed in any of the company’s Romanian facilities.
“The installation of photovoltaic panels at our sites in Romania represents a significant step in reducing GHG as part of our pep+ goals, and our commitment to integrate sustainability into every aspect of our operations. In addition to driving net-zero productivity, investing in photovoltaic panels also brings economic advantages. Our own electricity production allows us to reduce costs compared to purchasing from the grid,” Daniel Drăgușin, East Balkans Supply Chain Director, PepsiCo, mentioned.
PepsiCo Romania is committed to reducing its environmental footprint in every facet of its business. The business continuously makes investments in renewable energy sources, the usage of electric and hybrid cars, efficient transportation, and other environmentally friendly projects. By the end of the previous year, PepsiCo had achieved an 80% hybrid vehicle proportion in its fleet.
PepsiCo has been operating and investing in Romania for over 30 years. Over the past decade, the company has directly invested USD320m in Romania, strengthening its role as a regional business leader, production and distribution hub, and driver of sustainable practices.
