Short-term closures at recession- hit Cavendish Farms could continue into 2010.

The fresh-food specialist, which is the largest private employer in Prince Edward Island, announced last week it was planning to stop processing for one week in November and again for about 10 days in December because of the downturn in the US economy.

However, spokesperson Mary Keith has warned the scheduled downtimes may have to be extended into the New Year.
