Protecting the Potato Business for the Future

On Tuesday, November 22, the National Potato Conference and Trade Show 2022 will be held in the City North Hotel in Gormanston, Co. Meath, Ireland.
The conference is being organized by IFA in partnership with Teagasc and Bord Bia, with the theme “Potatoes – Protecting your Business for the Future”. Tim Cullinan, president of the IFA, will inaugurate the conference.
“The challenges for growers producing potatoes have increased substantially in the past two years with increased costs and a relatively static output price. All growers are struggling to deal with the increase in all inputs, but especially fertilizer and electricity,” IFA Potato Chairman Sean Ryan said.
The topic of food and input price inflation will be covered, according to the organizers, by economist Jim Power. While Bord Bia looks into potato marketing prospects, Kantar will provide an update on consumer trends.
The first session will give growers knowledge on upcoming dietary and purchasing trends for potatoes. The focus of the afternoon lectures will be on blight and wireworm, two serious agronomic problems, as well as ways to store potatoes more energy effectively.
After the speeches, there will be a trade display throughout the afternoon. Participants will also get the chance to take part in targeted sessions.
