Environmentally-friendly Potato Packaging Facility in Alberta for The Little Potato Company

The Little Potato Company Ltd. recently had a grand opening celebration for their cutting-edge, environmentally-friendly potato packaging facility in Nisku, Alberta, Canada. This historic event not only marks the company’s growth but also its unwavering dedication to raising the standard of food around the world.
Positioned advantageously in the Nisku Business Park, the new facility, which spans an astounding 240,000 square feet, represents an investment of USD39.5m. This site was selected due to its closeness to outstanding farming areas, committed family farmers, effective transportation systems, and a trained labor force.
The innovative technology on display in the new facility prioritizes environmentally friendly procedures while revolutionizing the way little potatoes are cleaned, sorted, and packaged. The Little Potato Company is at the forefront of guiding the food manufacturing industry toward a more sustainable future with a significant reduction in waste and carbon impact. Interestingly, 3,288 solar modules account for one-fourth of the facility’s energy production, making it the second-largest privately funded rooftop micro-generator in Alberta.
Furthermore, the facility has developed a cutting-edge water recycling technology that enables it to recover the water used for washing small potatoes. This innovative technology increases the value and safety of our products while drastically cutting down on water usage and operating costs. The plant, which can process over 56,700 tons of small potatoes a year, is well-positioned to create new benchmarks for the sector. This capacity will be used for export sales, mostly to the United States, to the tune of about 70%.
The project received support from the Agri-Processing Investment Tax Credit program of the Government of Alberta, contributing USD1.3m. This initiative is designed to bolster local businesses, driving economic growth and diversification in the province.
“Today is more than an opening; it’s a promise to our community and the planet. What started as a humble dream has blossomed into a global endeavor dedicated to sustainably nourishing and feeding the world better, one little potato at a time. Our innovative facility is built with future generations in mind. We are ensuring that we lead in eco-friendly production to meet the growing demand for families wanting to serve delicious and nutritious whole food quickly,” Angela Santiago, CEO, and Co-Founder of The Little Potato Company declared, expressing her heartfelt gratitude and enthusiasm about this milestone.
