Combined U.S. and Canadian Potato Production Down 4% From 2023

The combined 2024 potato production of the United States (U.S.) and Canada is projected to be 27.6m tons, a 4% decrease from the 2023 estimate.
The U.S. potato production alone is predicted to be 21.2m tons, a 5% decrease from the previous year. On the other hand, the Canadian potato growers lifted last year a total of 6.45m tons, a small increase from 2023.
“The 2023 potato production for the U.S., Canada, and Mexico combined is 31m tons, up 8% from the 2022 estimate. The U.S. 2023 potato production is estimated at 22.3m tons, up 9% from 2022. Canada’s potato growers harvested 6.45m tons during 2023, up 2% from 2022. Mexico’s potato growers harvested 2.22m tons during 2023, up 6% from 2022,” a recent USDA report reveals.
These stats are the result of a joint effort by Servicio de Información Agroalimentaria y Pesquera (SIAP), Statistics Canada, and USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) to publish potato production for three countries in one report.
