The greenhouses are now ready and in use. This was celebrated with an official opening for about 100 guests on Friday, April 6. Mayor Aucke van der Werff of the municipality of Noordoostpolder performed the opening ceremony. He was allowed to reveal a botanical mural of a flowering potato plant. This painting was made by Hanneke van Middelaar, an employee of Agrico Research.
Coöperatie Agrico was 45 years old on April 2018. This day was celebrated together with the opening of the new greenhouses during an open day on Saturday 7 April. Agrico joined the event “Come in the Greenhouse”. Between 10.00 and 16.00 all interested parties, including many members of Agrico, could admire the new greenhouses. Various activities for young and old were organized. The attraction D.J. a fries machine where a potato is processed into a fries accompanied by music and theater attracted a lot of interest. Around 1,800 visitors took part in the open day.
General manager Jan van Hoogen looks back on a successful opening. “It is overwhelming to see that there is so much interest in our organization. We are proud of our new greenhouse complex that serves as a nursery for our entire organization.”
