Solynta, a company specializing in potato breeding and biotechnology, this week revealed it has appointed Peter Kooman PhD in the role of head of product management and agronomy team.

According to the company, his extensive expertise in the field will help drive the company forward. Kooman earned his MSc in agriculture from Wageningen University with a focus on potato and received his PhD from the same university with a thesis on potato in relation to climate. On top of leading the potato innovation team at Solynta, Kooman will also continue teaching at the Ares University for Applied Sciences.

“Peter’s combination of analytics and practical potato knowledge and potato experience in large parts of the world will help our product development tremendously. I am thrilled that Peter will employ our product management and agronomy teams with his leadership,” commented Hein Kruyt, CEO of Solynta.

In related news, the potato breeder also recently appointed Charles Miller as Commercial Director. Miller is also on the Board of Directors of the American Seed Trade Association, and chairman of the Innovation and Policy Committee.

Before coming on board at Solynta, Miller served as vice president of international business development and sales at Chromatin Inc. – a company that develops and sells hybrid sorghum seeds.
