Important Non-EU Market Movements Made by 1,4GROUP on the Plant Growth Regulators

Two important and successive movements on the non-EU markets made by 1,4GROUP on the plant growth regulators’ products positively impacted both the U.S. and the Japanese companies in their global potato trade businesses.
First of all, 1,4GROUP made a big shift in 2023 by moving its chlorpropham (CIPC) manufacture from its prior overseas manufacturing base to the U.S. This change comes after CIPC’s registration in Europe and the UK was not renewed, which resulted in the company’s international production ceasing in January 2020.
“This change ensures the continued availability of CIPC to customers in North America where it remains approved for use. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) approved the new U.S.-based manufacturer, enabling customers to benefit from the reliable sprout inhibitor that has been a staple in the industry since the 1950s,” according to a company’s press release.
Customers can keep using sensible potato storage practices in the U.S. and Canada.
“We at 1,4GROUP are very enthusiastic about the transition. This will allow us to continue to deliver our quality products (PIN/NIP 98% CIPC and Spud Guard) for sprout control to our valued customers in the North American Potato industry. We would like to thank EPA and PMRA for recognizing the quality of our products and the need the potato industry has for them,” CEO Steve Elfering mentioned.
The Japanese Ministry for Health, Labor and Welfare: ‘1,4-DMN in potatoes pose no health concerns’
A maximum residue level of 15 ppm for 1,4-DMN in potatoes was recently added to the food residue regulations by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare (MHLW) on March 4, 2024.
“The ministry’s assessment concluded that residues of 1,4-DMN in potatoes pose no health concerns. This favorable determination is a significant step forward in enhancing the global trade of potatoes,” Jeanette VonKrosigk, Global Regulatory Affairs Director at 1,4GROUP, stated.
It is projected that allowing import tolerance for 1,4-DMN will enhance international trade in potatoes and improve storage methods across the board.
“We are working with our market channel partners to ensure that 1,4SIGHT expanded use is seamlessly integrated into their operations,” John Hren Global Sales & Marketing director concluded.
