Iden Biotechnology and the J.R. Simplot Company have recently entered into an agreement to explore the potential for nutritional enrichment in the potato. As part of the agreement, Iden will identify promising genes for potential use in Simplot’s proprietary Innate biotechnology platform. 

 

Indian Mahindra Group has announced a licensing agreement with the Dewulf group for manufacturing and marketing potato planting equipment in India. Mahindra will work with the Dewulf Group to bring its potato planting technology to the Indian market. 

 

Potato production was down throughout the Pacific Northwest during 2017, driven by acreage reductions in Idaho and lower yields in Washington and Oregon, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (USDA) report. 

 

Examining the ancestors of the modern, North American cultivated potato has revealed a set of common genes and important genetic pathways that have helped spuds adapt over thousands of years. The study appears in the current issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
