CêlaVíta to Be Dismantled After Failed Restart Effort

Dutch potato products brand CêlaVíta will not resume operations, following the withdrawal of potential buyers. Curator Frans Aartsen confirmed that “the size and complexity of the production facility” deterred acquisition attempts. He added that the ownership structure of the factory in Wezep, Gelderland, further complicated a restart.
Production at the site stopped in August when CêlaVíta filed for bankruptcy. Around ten interested parties had initially explored a takeover, but no deal was reached. Aartsen said he would consult with stakeholders on the next steps, which include dismantling the factory.
The bankruptcy, declared on 13 August 2025, followed mounting costs, weak financial results, and debts amounting to roughly €22 million. An internal memo cited pressure on retail prices and escalating expenses, with little prospect of recovery, as key factors in the collapse.
All 171 employees were dismissed on 18 August. Their wages during the six-week notice period will be paid by the Employee Insurance Agency (UWV).
