Grimme Starts Production in China

Grimme has officially opened the new state-of-the-art 12500sqm plant in Tianjin (130 km southeast of Beijing).
The new office building with 1400sqm was also handed over to its destination on the 3.5-hectare site. With over EUR13m, it is one of the largest single-investments abroad in the company’s 150-year history, according to the company.
The project manager Christoph Grimme emphasized: “The new plant is designed for state-of-the-art manufacturing and production, so that we are able to guarantee the same high-quality level as at the main plant in Damme (Germany). Initially, the production focus will be on machines for planting, cultivating, harvesting and storage of potatoes that have been specially developed for the Chinese market.
The traditional company from Damme has been active in the “country of the rising sun” for over 20 years.
With over 5 million hectares of potatoes, China is the world’s largest producer and has undergone a rapid development in recent years. The Chinese government has declared potatoes to be the four most important food and wants to expand potato cultivation massively.
