Lutosa Begins EUR225m Upgrade of Waregem Site to Power Future Fry Production

Lutosa has officially launched a €225 million industrial expansion at its Waregem facility, marking one of the largest food sector investments in the region in recent years. The project, inaugurated on May 27, 2025, reinforces the Belgian company’s local footprint and long-term commitment to sustainable and high-capacity production of frozen French fries and potato flakes.
The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by Flemish Minister-President Matthias Diependaele and Kristof Chanterie, Mayor of Waregem. The officials were welcomed by Lutosa CEO Alain Dufait, who presented the full scope of the investment, including the creation of approximately 100 new jobs across operations, logistics, and technical roles.
“This momentous occasion symbolizes the concrete launch of one of the largest industrial investments in the region in recent years,” the company stated. The expansion includes the installation of a new frozen fries production line, an extended potato flakes line, a modern potato reception and sorting station, and the modernization of the site’s wastewater treatment plant.
According to Lutosa, the new facilities will integrate “the best available techniques in terms of water management and energy recovery,” with a clear aim to “minimize nuisance for local residents and the environment, while maintaining the impeccable quality of Lutosa’s famous French fries.”
Completion is expected by mid-2026, with new production lines going live shortly thereafter.
Beyond its industrial scale, the project also reflects a long-term employment and regional development strategy. “These new opportunities involve a wide range of profiles, from production and maintenance to logistics, quality and technical management,” Lutosa stated. The investment is designed to support integrated career paths and continuous training programs, all within a “modern, automated and sustainable working environment.”
By aligning innovation, sustainability, and local development, Lutosa’s Waregem project underscores the company’s ambition to remain a central player in the West Flanders food industry while contributing to Belgium’s export strength in the frozen potato sector.
