The French Seed Potato Developer Elorn Plants Joins Europatat

Europatat extends a warm welcome to Elorn Plants, a Finistère, western Brittany (France)-based expert in the production and selling of seed potatoes. The region is well-known around the world for producing high-quality seed potatoes and shipping them promptly.
“Elorn Plants has been producing and marketing quality Breton seed potatoes since 1996. The company was born on the initiative of five family businesses that were producing seed potatoes for several generations. The aim was to promote Brittany’s seed potatoes on the international markets, to buy the right to distribute exclusive varieties and to become independent on the commercial side,” a recent Europatat release reveals.
Since its creation, Elorn Plants has been developing a wide range of seed potato varieties. In partnership with Bretagne Plants Innovation, the company develops new varieties in response to new agronomic challenges and consumer trends. Every year, Elorn Plants carries out trials of its hybrids in targeted countries, to check whether or not the characteristics of a new variety match local consumer habits and farming practices.
“Today, Elorn Plants works closely with 40 seed potato producers in a cultivated area of 950 hectares. The company markets 25.000 tonnes of seed potatoes per year which are shipped to more than 30 countries in regions such as Africa, the Middle East, and Europe,” Europatat representatives concluded.
