Unlocking the Potential of the IGA Partnership to Elevate Potato Sales

With best-in-class tools, shopper insights, and best practices for potato merchandising, Potatoes USA and the Independent Grocers Alliance (IGA) have completed a new agreement to assist independent grocers in capitalizing on America’s favorite vegetable.
“Potatoes are a key grocery basket-builder. Grocery stores bring in an average USD90.50 per basket with potatoes versus USD47.47 without the vegetable, according to an IRI product affinity study. Potatoes also account for over 10% of all vegetable sales. And with 80% of Americans reaching for potatoes weekly at the store, grocers can grow baskets by featuring the popular produce in their summer marketing,” the Potatoes USA experts recently wrote.
Along with being the largest voluntary supermarket network in the world, IGA has annual retail sales of approximately USD43bn worldwide. With operations in more than 25 countries and 46 U.S. states, the Alliance has more than 6,300 stores worldwide.
“Through the partnership, targeted strategies will be implemented to elevate the potato category, driving demand and increasing sales in grocery outlets. At the same time, independent grocers can use key marketing resources to better meet consumer needs and preferences,” the Potatoes USA representatives concluded.
