China’s Seven Months Year-On-Year Potato Exports Remain the Same

China’s fresh or refrigerated potato exports (except for seed use) totaled 54,310 tons in July 2022, a 21.58% boost over June’s export volume of 44,670 tons. In comparison to the same period last year, when the export volume was 47,230 tons, the potato network data cited by Weixin.qq estimated a 14.98% increase.
In July, exports totaled approximately USD26.63m, a 17.53% rise over the same period last year.
Frozen potato exports totaled approximately 2,180 tons in July 2022, an increase of approximately 61.84% over the same period last year. Exports totaled approximately USD2.19m, representing a 67.69% increase over the same period last year.
In July 2022, the total export of potato starch was about 490 tons, an increase of about 2180.84% over the same period last year. The total value of exports was about USD0.47m, a boost of about 2026.76% over the same period last year.
The same potato network data shows that the total amount of fresh or refrigerated potatoes exported by China from January to July (except for seed use) was about 174,900 tons, compared with the total export volume of 176,400 tons in the same period last year, a year-on-year (y-o-y) decrease of about 0.86%.
The unit price of fresh or refrigerated potatoes in China, in July 2022, was USD490 per ton, compared with the export unit price of USD631 per ton in June, down about 22.35% month-on-month (m-o-m). Compared with the export unit price of USD479 per ton in July 2021, it increased by about 2.30% y-o-y.
Chinese Potato Export Country Profiles
In July 2022, overall, a total of 14 countries imported fresh or chilled potatoes from China. Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, the Russian Federation, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Brunei, and Macau were the top ten countries/regions that imported fresh or chilled Chinese potatoes from China during that period.
Malaysia had the highest import level of fresh or refrigerated potatoes in China in July 2022, with a total volume of about 18,120 tons, a 1.99% raise over the same period last year. Malaysia paid approximately USD5.65m for this volume, an increase of approximately 39.83% over the same period in 2021.
It was followed by Vietnam, which imported approximately 10,790 tons, a decrease of approximately 37.40% from the same period last year. The amount was approximately USD11.06m, representing a decrease of approximately 25.95% from the same period last year. The value of exports to Myanmar is approximately USD2.13m.
Japan, South Korea, and Singapore were the top three countries for frozen potato exports in July, this year. Among them, 1,510 tons were exported to Japan, representing a 53.39% increase y-o-y. The value of exports was approximately USD1.68m, representing a y-o-y increase of approximately 66.05%.
The top three countries for potato starch exports in July were the Russian Federation, Mongolia, and the United States. Among them, the volume of exports to the Russian Federation was 400 tons, an increase of about 1992.52% year-on-year. The export value was about USD0.37m, an increase of about 1840.36% year-on-year.
Top Chinese Potato Export Cities in 2022
The top three Chinese export provinces and cities in terms of the total amount and amount of fresh or refrigerated potatoes exported in July 2022 are Shandong Province, Yunnan Province, and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Among them, the total export volume of Shandong Province was about 23,540 tons, and the export volume was approximately 10.13% lower than that of the same period last year. The value of exports was about USD7.83m, an increase of approximately 32.18% over the same period in 2021.
The total export volume of Yunnan Province was about 10,330 tons, and the export volume increased by about 47.56% over the same period last year. The value of exports was about USD2.16m, down about 13.88% from the same period last year.
The total export volume of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was about 8,740 tons, 13.78% lower than that of the same period last year. The value of exports was about USD10.22m, down about 19.25% from the same period last year.
