Still Around 15,000 Hectares of Potatoes to Be Lifted in Belgium, Holland, Germany and France

Over the holiday season, there haven’t been any additional potato liftings across the majority of Europe. According to recent estimates, there may still be 15,000 hectares in Belgium, Holland, Germany, and France to be lifted, along with “a few hundred ha’s of seed” in each of these countries.
“Fresh markets are firm with reports of good demand and some stronger prices. Export markets are starting to come to life again with demand from the Mediterranean countries and Eastern Europe,” the most recent IFA potato report reveals.
Due to increased consumption brought on by the present cold weather, potato sales in Ireland are holding up quite nicely. Prepack quality material is in high demand, and prices are remaining steady.
“Following the extremely challenging harvest, there are further reports that the saleable yields are significantly reduced after grading out of store,” the IFA experts concluded.
