From Ambition To Execution Across The Potato Value Chain

As we wrap up the final issue of 2025, one thing is clear: the potato industry is no longer talking about transformation as a future ambition. It is happening now, inside factories, across fields, and throughout supply chains that are being re-engineered under real economic and environmental pressure.
This issue is built around that reality. We look closely at what emissions-free potato processing actually means in practice—not as an offsetting exercise, not as a marketing label, but as a set of tangible decisions around heat, electricity, equipment design, and plant layout. Several of the projects examined here show that reducing direct emissions is increasingly linked to operational resilience, not just compliance or reputation.
Energy use is another recurring thread. From on-site electricity generation to smarter load management and energy-efficient processing lines, energy saving has become a board-level discussion for processors of all sizes. With volatility now accepted as the norm rather than the exception, energy strategy is increasingly inseparable from cost control and long-term competitiveness.
We also explore how value is being extracted from places that were once considered waste streams. Upcycling in the potato industry is moving beyond pilot projects and into commercially relevant territory, opening new revenue paths while addressing mounting pressure on resources and disposal costs.
At the agricultural end of the chain, regenerative practices are no longer discussed in isolation from processors. This issue examines how farming systems, data, and contracts are beginning to align more closely with industrial requirements—signalling a shift toward more integrated, outcome-driven supply chains.
This issue also marks the end of another demanding year. 2025 tested assumptions, margins, and timelines, but it also reinforced the sector’s capacity to adapt and invest with intent.
We will see many of you again very soon. The 2026 trade show calendar begins with Fruit Logistica in February, where conversations will continue—about technology, partnerships, and new opportunities. We look forward to meeting, reconnecting, and shaping what comes next together.
See you in 2026.
