The New Mooij Agro’s Smart Cooling Manager for Potato Cold Storage

The brand-new Smart Cooling Manager from Mooij Agro for potato cold storage interacts with cooling cells and units and regulates each unit’s temperature autonomously.
“The system knows the exact temperature per cell and the best storage temperature for each product. The Smart Cooling Manager continuously coordinates this and regulates the ideal temperature and corresponding cooling capacity,” a recent company press release reveals.
The client is no longer required to run the cooling unit’s screen because the software element has been incorporated into the Croptimiz-r storage system.
When crops are properly cooled, there is less food loss and dehydration, which increases revenue. Additionally, each cooling cell’s accurate temperature as well as the present cooling flows are always visible to customers on a monitor.
“Mechanical cooling is becoming increasingly important for potato growers and store managers, due to the disappearance of sprout inhibitors (CIPC)”, according to a recent company press release.
The EU’s removal of some sprout inhibitors has contributed to the growing importance of refrigeration in potato preservation. For example, growth suppression with chlorpropham/CIPC has been discontinued as of harvest 2020. A constant environment inside the cell is therefore even more essential for the storage process. To stop sprouting, precise and dependable chilling is necessary. In other words, excellent airflow and chilling guarantee that the potatoes’ temperature and humidity (i.e., lack of condensation) are stable during hot weather. As a result, the potatoes stay drier and are less likely to sprout, which helps both the quality and the amount. We created the clever cooling controller in part because of this.
