Increasing Potato Demand and Consumption Throughout Europe and the U.K.

As Christmas draws near, there are reports that potato demand and consumption are increasing throughout Europe and the U.K.
As the Christmas season draws near, potato demand and consumption are also rising in Ireland. The yield dig numbers for 2024 have been released. The yields of the Rooster potato variety in 2024 and 2023 were similar, albeit there was a minor rise noted. While Kerr Pinks yields in 2024 are marginally higher, Rooster potato yields are below the rolling 5-year average. Both, meanwhile, are far less than the years of peak output in 2021 and 2022, when prices were under a lot of downward pressure.
“Given that there was no 2023 crop available in August, much of the early planted Rooster was moved early to fill that market, especially in the southern half of the country where yields were lower. It seems that much of the extra area planted this year was used up early in the season when yields were lower, leaving supplies probably adequate for the coming few months,” the IFA potato experts concluded.
