French Association of Potato Producers Prepares for 2017 Congress

“An ecologically competitive potato, but at what price?” is the theme of the next Congress of Union Nationale des Producteurs de Pommes de Terre – UNPT (French Association of Potato Producers), held January, 24.
The morning discussions will focus on the main UNPT issues and the directions for 2017. The organizers will also present the prospects and the evolution of potato demand by 2025.
Jean-Paul BORDES (ARVALIS – Institut du végétal) will have an intervention and the afternoon is dedicated to a round table, which will be an opportunity to understand the evolution of societal demands (food, environment, quality), how to respond to these demands (agronomy, improvement of practices), and its concrete consequences (prices, specifications, availability of raw materials, etc.).
Arnaud Delacour, president of the UNPT, said: “The societal requirements are becoming clearer, the increase in our level of collective knowledge creates a total aversion to risk. The roadmap is now clear: our potatoes must be healthy for the consumer but also from sustainable production processes. Therefore, the main message of our next UNPT congress is simple: rather than hinder our competitiveness, help us to succeed in this environmental revolution, that society calls for, and no longer waste time in sterile quarrels: time plays against us.”
