PotatoEurope 2025: Showcasing Innovation and Smart Farming in the Field

The international potato industry is set to converge in Lelystad, the Netherlands, on 3–4 September for PotatoEurope 2025, a key trade fair where technology, innovation, and live demonstrations will take centre stage.
Held at the WUR Open Field Research Centre under the theme ‘Innovate, Network, Grow’, the event is expected to draw over 15,000 visitors and feature more than 300 exhibitors. With its unique focus on mechanisation and sustainable solutions for the potato supply chain, PotatoEurope continues to cement its reputation as the industry’s leading outdoor platform.
“PotatoEurope offers visitors a comprehensive and practical overview of the latest mechanisation technologies for potato cultivation,” said organiser Kuno Jacobs. “But the event is about much more than just machinery. Exhibitors on the showgrounds will also present the latest innovations in cultivation, processing and marketing. PotatoEurope is the ultimate platform to innovate, share knowledge and strengthen networks across the potato chain.”
Machinery in Action
One of the event’s key attractions is its large-scale machinery demonstrations, where visitors can observe cutting-edge equipment at work across 25 hectares planted with the Alegria variety. Harvesters from AVR, Dewulf, Grimme and Ropa will showcase their capabilities, supported by tipping trailers from manufacturers including Beco, Brettmeister, Joskin and Krampe.
The journey continues to grading lines featuring systems from Bijlsma Hercules, Spinnekop, Visser and others, followed by the popular box-filling demonstrations from Mechatec, VHM Machinery, and Wevano Machinery. A highlight this year will be live optical sorting demonstrations, with Flikweert Vision, Tomra Food and Visar Sorting presenting technologies for quality assessment of freshly harvested tubers.
Innovation and Knowledge Sharing
Beyond mechanisation, PotatoEurope will also highlight advances in agronomy and post-harvest management. Fifteen companies will showcase new potato varieties and trial plots focusing on fertilisation, tuber initiation, crop protection and storage strategies.
Meanwhile, the WUR conference ‘ICM – The Future of Potato Farming’ will explore scientific insights and smart farming approaches designed to future-proof the sector.
A Sold-Out Edition
Rotating annually between the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and France, PotatoEurope has become a must-attend event for stakeholders across the potato value chain. The 2025 edition is fully booked, with 311 exhibitors from 16 countries preparing to engage with an international audience of growers, processors and technology suppliers.
