Tesco And Branston Boost Availability Of ‘Ultimate Roast Potato’ Across UK Stores

Branston has significantly increased production of its popular Nemo roasting potato to meet growing consumer demand across the UK, with volumes up by 87% compared to last year.
Developed by Branston over nine years through crossing Inca Bella and Franceline, the Nemo potato has become a seasonal favourite for British consumers, recognised for its crisp exterior, fluffy texture, and 25% faster cooking time. Its distinctive pink-and-white skin pattern inspired its name, reminiscent of the animated character from Finding Nemo.
To support the expanded supply—reportedly 16 times higher than in previous years—Branston has worked with its network of growers to identify suitable land and streamline production across its three main facilities in Lincoln, Somerset, and Perth.
Lucia Washbrook, Sales and Marketing Director at Branston, said the company was “delighted to be scaling up Nemo so that more shoppers can enjoy this fantastic variety,” noting that it “delivers on both taste and practicality” for increasingly time-pressed households.
Tesco has also ramped up availability, with 1.2 million units of Nemo now stocked in all large stores and online. Lucy Moss, Potato Buying Manager at Tesco, said the variety “has been popular since it first hit our shelves four years ago,” adding that the supermarket worked closely with Branston and its growers “to ensure we can continue to deliver a great quality potato” during the peak winter season.
Branston attributes Nemo’s quicker cooking time to its partial Andean phureja heritage, which provides a more uniform cell structure, allowing for faster heat transfer and even roasting.
With its expansion, the Nemo reinforces Branston’s position as one of the UK’s leading potato suppliers, catering to the growing demand for high-quality, convenient meal solutions during the colder months.
