Elite Potato Seed Production Begins in Mongolia

The Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry of Mongolia has opened its Laboratory for Propagating Virus-Free Potato Microtubers, which is part of the Research and Development Center.
Super-elite seeds were used to create the initial batch of microplants, which have since been moved into an aeroponic environment to mature into tubers. The model farm is being created solely to produce domestic super-elite seed potatoes with assistance from the State Budget, guaranteeing a consistent supply of superior seeds for seed-breeding businesses.
“The Research and Development Center aims to produce 10,000 virus-free potato microtubers and 2,000 mother plants this year. This will provide 20% of the super-elite seed tubers required in Mongolia,” according to the Mongolian National News Agency.
Utilizing and protecting plant genetic resources, accumulating seed reserves of locally adapted varieties, and establishing a seed production system for grains, potatoes, vegetables, fruits, berries, and other beneficial crops were all mandated by the “Food Revolution” National Movement.
