GB Potatoes Proud to Support Grow Your Own Potatoes in 2025
In 2025, GB Potatoes is thrilled to once more support the Grow Your Own Potatoes (GYOP) initiative, which will help motivate the upcoming generation of potato farmers.
Nearly 200,000 schoolchildren in the UK will plant their seed potatoes in March. Many of them are now busy chitting them, which involves putting them in a cool, light area to promote sprouting, so they can be planted in a few weeks.
“This year, in addition to their seed potatoes, participating schools will also receive free wildflower seeds to plant alongside their crops. This exciting addition highlights the importance of biodiversity and pollinators in food production, teaching children about the vital role bees and other insects play in ensuring healthy crops. By growing wildflowers alongside their potatoes, pupils will gain a deeper understanding of how nature and farming work together to sustain our food supply,” a GB report reveals.
GYOP, one of the most well-liked primary school expansion programs in the UK, gives students a practical learning experience that is closely related to the curriculum for science, geography, and healthy eating. Through this activity, children are encouraged to learn about the origins of their food, the advantages of cultivating their own food, and the significance of sustainability. Students gain important life skills and a deeper understanding of the labor-intensive process involved in food production.
