Grup Serban Aligns with Europatat to Advance Romania’s Position in EU Potato Sector

Grup Șerban Holding (GSH), a leading player in Romanian agribusiness and the country’s top producer of potatoes for industrial processing, has become a member of Europatat, the European Potato Trade Association. The move places Romania more firmly within the European potato value chain and brings GSH into one of the sector’s most influential trade bodies.
Membership connects GSH with a network of growers, processors, and traders shaping the direction of Europe’s potato market. It also provides access to market analyses and statistics, participation in international conferences, and opportunities to contribute to working groups in dialogue with EU policymakers.
The European Union produces more than 48 million tonnes of potatoes annually on about 1.3 million hectares, according to Eurostat. With growing demands for quality and sustainability, GSH’s affiliation with Europatat is both recognition of its performance and an opportunity to build new strategic partnerships, leveraging the export potential of Romanian potatoes.
Headquartered in north-eastern Romania, GSH operates across an integrated structure including crop cultivation, grain and vegetable trade, livestock, logistics services, as well as bakery, patisserie, and food service activities. The company currently farms 13,000 hectares, of which 2,500 hectares are irrigated. Its storage capacity includes 162,000 tonnes for cereals and 21,500 tonnes for vegetables in controlled conditions, ensuring year-round distribution.
For the 2025–2029 period, GSH plans to expand storage capacity by an additional 30,000 tonnes and build a processing facility for frozen pre-fried potatoes, with a projected annual output of at least 35,000 tonnes of French fries and 7,000 tonnes of hash browns.
Through sustained investment in technology, irrigation, and modern processing, the company has become the primary supplier of potatoes for industrial use to PepsiCo Romania and a major fresh potato supplier to international retail chains operating in the country.
Listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange’s AeRO Premium market (symbol: GSH), GSH has made digitalisation, precision farming, irrigation, and regenerative agriculture the cornerstones of its growth strategy. Its Europatat membership underscores the company’s commitment to modernising Romania’s potato industry and strengthening the country’s presence in European decision-making.
