Potato Production in Iraq Fell in 2018

The Agricultural Statistics Directorate has announced that potato production in Iraq fell by 37.9% in 2018, indicating that the average yield of the dunums of the crop amounted to 6744 kg.
According to a report by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), “potato production for the Spring and Autumn Spring of 2018 was 165.6 thousand tons, a decline of 37.9 percent compared to the previous year of 266.8 thousand tons. The total cultivated area of the crop amounted to 24.6 thousand dunums, a decrease of 36.1 percent, compared with the previous year, in which the cultivated area was estimated at 38.4 thousand dunams.”
The average yield of one dunum of potato crop for spring and autumn spring, amounted to 6744.4 kg on the basis of cultivated area, down 2.8% from the previous season, which was estimated 6939.4 kg, dinardaily.net.
In December 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture banned the importation of agricultural crops as part of its plan to support local agricultural products in accordance with the agricultural calendar based on the supply and demand base, which included potatoes, eggplants, cloves, carrots, carrots, pomegranates, tomatoes and maize.
