Newly Elected Potatoes USA Leadership With Mike Carter at Its Helm
On March 15, 2023, during its annual meeting, Potatoes USA chose new executives. The Executive Committee and the organization will be led by Mike Carter of Rosholt, Wisconsin, as Chairman of the Board through 2023–2024.
Carter, the CEO and co-owner of Bushmans’ Inc. and a 25-year potato business veteran, has been a board member for ten years. Carter has served as a member of the Executive Committee for six years throughout this time, serving as Co-Chair for the Industry Outreach, Domestic Marketing, and International Marketing Committees.
Carter says he is grateful for the opportunity to serve as Chairman and views it as a great honor. He is excited about creating a long-term strategy that will set the course and foundation for the industry’s future in the face of a fast-shifting global scene, even though he has a lot to look forward to in the coming year.
He also applauds Potatoes USA’s strong defense of the reputation of potatoes and is happy to have conversations with the global potato community. An upcoming trip to Poland is one such chance when he will meet with other growers to promote the benefits of potatoes on a worldwide scale.
Carter has a distinctive background that gives him a broad view and expertise of the sector, including his prior work as a state manager for a potato group. As he takes on more duties, he hopes to keep encouraging cooperation and teamwork within the sector.
“I don’t think there’s anything that we as an industry can’t accomplish when we work together. It will be critical that we maintain this philosophy,” Carter mentioned when discussing the industry’s strength.
In addition to his services to Potatoes USA, Mike Carter is an active member of his religious community and is on the board of the Wisconsin State Potato Growers Association. Outside of the workplace, Carter enjoys curling and has jocularly gained a reputation as a “potato curling ambassador” since he frequently inserts himself into talks promoting this intriguing sport.
