Simplot to Purchase Agronico’s Business and Real Estate

Agronico, the largest seed potato producer in Tasmania, has agreed with Simplot to purchase its business and real estate, subject to regulatory approvals, including clearance from the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB).
The owner of Agronico, Judith Shaw, stated that Simplot would carry on the heritage and dedication of the company when she announced the decision to sell.
“Julian Shaw built this business with a passion for Tasmanian agriculture and a focus on research and development over 35 years, and we are confident that Simplot will continue his commitment and legacy. I’d like to acknowledge the contribution of our employees whose skills and commitment have been instrumental in our business success over the years. Simplot’s values align closely with ours and the organization provides many opportunities for career growth and development. It is especially pleasing for Agronico to be joining an organization that is invested in the long-term viability of Tasmania’s potato industry,” Judith Shaw mentioned in a recent company press release.
Agronico was founded by Julian Shaw in 1985. The only supplier adopting hydroponics for increased output is Agronico, one of only a few large-scale Australian suppliers of minitubers, referring to both proprietary and non-proprietary cultivars. Each year, Agronico produces 8,000 tonnes of seed potatoes and close to 25,000 tons of minitubers.
