The Potato Breeder Lind Joins Europatat

Europatat is pleased to welcome the Polish firm Lind, which was founded in 1996 as a venture of a Scottish family-run farming company with decades of expertise in the production of high-quality seed potatoes – J&WF Lind, based in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
In Great Britain, J&WF Lind was a pioneer in the manufacture of pre-basic seed potatoes. It is the biggest private maker of pre-basic seed potatoes in Scotland and the first business to have a commercial potato micropropagation facility. The entire seed supply of the Scottish business is generated in its micropropagation facility, meaning that seed potatoes are created under stringent devotion to biological safety in a closed propagation cycle.
Currently, 50 different potato types are grown by J&WF Lind. Each year, Lind grows 400 hectares of seed potatoes in Poland, roughly 75% of which are free types and 25% of which are grown under contract for variety breeders. Some seed potatoes are made from microplants in a fully controlled propagation cycle, which strictly adheres to phytosanitary guidelines and varietal integrity. Lind is not outsourcing any seed-growing to do that. The administration of all outdoor labor, storing, and grading is separate.
In Poland, seed potatoes are replicated for a maximum of two years to create the finest product possible that is free of viruses and diseases, ensuring that good, robust seed material will be obtained during the reproduction process. The greatest quality and healthiest seed potatoes are guaranteed by the best seed stock and the ideal growing environment for potatoes in Poland’s northwest, near the Baltic Sea.
“Lind has achieved a significant position in the Polish and European markets. It grows seed for processing and table markets, both free and licensed varieties. A few years ago, it started cooperation with markets outside Europe and is the only exporter of seed potatoes from Poland to Egypt and Saudi Arabia,” according to a recent Europatat press release.
